I recently read this book after seeing it mentioned on this list and
fictionchat. I'm having trouble thinking of read-a-likes so will be very
interested to see what this list comes up with. Some that come to mind are
Map of the World by Jane Hamilton
Before and after by Rosellen Brown
I mention "Map" and "Before" for their elements of tragedy and how the
characters react and grow after they are faced with such horrible
circumstances.
Perhaps some of Thomas Cooks stories might fit. His tales frequently build
slowly and tell the tale in reverse order and his characters often know things
that the others do not and we are all privy too.
These may loosely fit. As I said I'll be interested in the responses. Good
luck!
Carol

The city of Rochester is again doing the program, "If All of Rochester Read
the Same Book", this spring. The book for 2002 is Russell Banks' THE SWEET
HEREAFTER. Our division will be producing bookmarks and displays for the
event, so I was hoping to gather suggestions from everyone on Fiction-L.
One bookmark will be read-a-likes for THE SWEET HEREAFTER -- any
recommendations?
I can compile and post to the list if anyone is interested.
Thank you!
Kate
