Our library is doing a "Lynchburg Reads" program, and
the book we have chosen is John Steinbeck's "Of Mice
and Men." I have been assigned the task to come up
with a list of "If you liked Of Mice and Men, try...".
Can any of you suggest books I might put on the list?
Thank you.

Other Steinbeck novels are a must-include - but I would put _Cannery Row_
and _in Dubious Battle_ at the top of my list. _Cured By Fire_ by Tim
McLaurin deals with friendship between two itinerant men, one of whom is
dying. Stories that touch on life with developmentally-disabled people
include _A Quiet Life_ by Oe Kenzaburo, _The Great Equalizer_ by Rick
Borsten, and the Darby series (_A Little More Than Kin_) by Ernest Hebert,
if you can find it. _Flowers for Algernon_ by Daniel Keyes is a
well-known short novel, and _Death Eligible_ by Judith Henry Wall deals
with the debate over execution of the mentally retarded.
I look forward to others' suggestions.
Andrew
