Hello science fiction fans:

Can anyone identify a fairly recent (last decade) science fiction title
where God's head falls into the ocean? This is the main element that the
patron remembers about the book. He thinks the author is a woman and that
she has written other books--one about a woman who is a cop in a society
wherein people are policed with of a 'global uplink into a computer
consiousness.'

Any ideas--Thanks!

As someone has already pointed out, the book asked for is probably
TOWING JEHOVAH by James Morrow, though that involves God's whole
corpse falling in the ocean, not just the head. I believe in one
of the two sequels (which I haven't read) God's skull is somehow
sent into orbit as an artificial satellite; maybe that's the source
of the "head" memory.

James Morrow is definitely male. The female author of a near-future
female cop involved in cybersociety crime half-remembered might be
Pat Murphy, with her two-volume (so far) series comprised of TEA
FROM AN EMPTY CUP and DERVISH IS DIGITAL.
