I hope this question is okay to post.... I am trying to find a
title/author of book based upon the following information:
a. The book is fiction, a novel based upon an old Gaelic or Celtic tale.
b.The patron believes is was a bestseller around 1988-1990.
c.The author is a woman. (90% sure)
-d.The title has the Gaelic word for raft in it. Spelling: curragh (?)
I've searched everywhere I can think of with no luck. I have also
looked at a Gaelic dictionary and was not able to confirm the spelling
of the word for raft either {:-}
Does this description ring a bell with anyone?
I appreciate your collective intelligence and thank you in advance for
your help.

A long shot, Shirley -- your description makes me think of THE
MISTS OF AVALON by M. Z. Bradley. If I remember correctly, the
way to the island was on one of these little hide covered "boats."
There are alot of books using those little boats, so I suppose the
possibilities are just as many. Good luck. BYE!
