Petulia liked animals, especially pigs, because they had wobbly noses.
Tiffany quite liked animals too, but no one except other animals liked
animals as much as Petulia.

Hi all,
Would anyone have any suggestions for great young adult nonfiction. I
had a patron, about ninth grade, who was looking for any good nonfiction
book over 150 pages. He wouldn't give me any other information.
Actually, his mother was doing most of the talking. I don't think he
wanted anything to do with it--he was trying to get away from me as fast
as he could!
I will compile any suggestions. Thanks.

I'm about halfway through THE RADIOACTIVE BOY SCOUT:
the True Story of a Boy and his Backyard Nuclear
Reactor by Ken Silverstein. It's 209 pages and so far
it's pretty good - about a kid who had a messed up
family and was a science geek. He built this nuclear
reactor in his backyard, endangering pretty much the
whole town until the federal hazmat folks showed up to dismantle it.

"Dove," by Robin Graham. It's the story (told by himself) of a teenage boy
who sailed around the world alone. Also anything by Thor Heyerdahl. In
fact, most books about exploration would interest a boy.

Also, how about "Counting Coup," by Larry Colton? It's the story of a
mostly Native American basketball team. They're girls, but a sports-minded
boy might enjoy it anyway.
