Fiction L,
I have a patron who has read all of our Jude Devereaux and Nora Roberts.
She says that she likes magical romance but wants something with witches.
Do you have any suggestions? I suspect that she wants something with "good"
witches not dark ones like Anne Rice and such.
thank you in advance b/c this one is out of my realm:)

I've only read one (In Camelot's Shadow by Sarah Zettel), so I can't
speak for the whole line. The Zettel book was written in Arthurian
England and the main character, while not exactly a witch, is blessed with
some phsyic powers. There is an evil wizard she battles and a hero that
she wins over with her strength. There was a lot of romance.I loved it.
It's an interesting crossover line of fiction.
Hope that helps. I'll try to think of some more.

A lot will depend on her definition of "witches." If she's talking
about the standard fantasy conception or the type of things you would
see on the TV show "Charmed,"
she might be interested in the relatively-new subgenre of "paranormal
romance." Tor Books (among others) has a publishing line devoted to
this. Helpful links include:
http://www.romance-ffp.com/ (paranormal romance SIG of the Romance
Writers of America)
http://www.writerspace.com/ParanormalRomance/
http://pnr.thebestreviews.com/
If she's more interested in Wiccan-style witches, there are some "pagan
friendly" and outright Wiccan fiction publishers, some of which have
titles that have romantic elements to them. There are some authors from
mainstream publishing houses that would fall into this category, as
well. A good start would be the lists at:
http://www.catanna.com/paganfiction.htm
http://www.bewitchingways.com/reference.htm#fiction
Good luck!

Also, Mercedes Lackey's new series on the Elemental Masters, "The Serpent's
Shadow", "The Gates of Sleep", and "Phoenix and Ashes", all feature people
who could be described as witches and warlocks. Also, her "Fairy Godmother"
features witches and warlocks as side-characters, but the main character is,
well, a fairy godmother, but not exactly the way one usually expects. It
was a lot of fun.

Your patron might like the historical series by Patricia Rice involving the Malcolm Women--sisters and cousins who possess special "gifts" (healing, "scenting" emotions, reading auras, contacting ghosts, etc.)--Sexy, funny, great central and secondary characters. They include, so far:
Merely Magic
Must Be Magic
The Trouble with Magic
This Magic Moment
I eagerly anticipate the next book!

She might also enjoy Breath of Magic and Touch of Enchantment by Teresa
