I have a patron who remembers reading one of our library books 10
years ago, but can't remember the author name or title. I hope one of
you might be able to help. The patron does remember that the author
only wrote 2 or 3 books. Not a big name SCI-FI author.

Here's the plot as he recalls:
An alien woman crashes to earth in the ocean near an island inhabited
by a well-to-do man. She recruits him to help her people. She trains
him to have total control of his body; to heal it or change it as he
sees fit and to harness energy in the world around him to accomplish
that & more. They build a space ship, fueling it with ocean water and
embark on a voyage to her home planet. On the way, an asteroid
impacts the ship. The alien woman disappears and the man crashes to
her planet in the ship.

The man journeys across the planet to find the woman's people;
changing his body to adapt to hostile conditions when necessary.
Eventually he captures an animal called a vooflorn or vorflon, this
alien world's most vicious preditor and uses it to fly to find the
alien people."

Pretty detailed memory of the plot apparently, but can't remember the
title or author. Thanks in advance for the info. or any ideas as to
how I can come up with this information.
