I got this question from a patron. Ring any bells? "My grandfather named
my mother after a woman in a book whose name was KAY ELLEN. It would
have been written in 1945 or earlier. It is my mother's birthday soon,
and I would love to purchase the book for her. She has been on the
search for years. I thought I would ask if you knew of any books where
the character's name is Kay Ellen. Thanks!!!!"

I don't have an answer, but you might want to see which of the following
dictionaries/glossaries of literary character names are held by libraries
in your vicinity which could be checked:
