I noticed Carlos Ruiz Zafon's "The Shadow of the Wind" on a list of
mysteries. The New York Times review calls it a gothic romance. Whatever it is, I was
transported to Barcelona by the audio version and captivated by the
characters and the plot. I am currently taking a reader's advisory course and would
appreciate comments as to classifying this novel by genre.

I, too, became entranced with the audio version. All through it I
kept being reminded of other writers, including Dickens and the
Brontes. I wouldn't include it in a mystery list. Gothic romance is
probably closer. I'm just glad you're the one who has to pick a
genre!
