Hi. We had an e-mail reference question from a man who is trying to find a
fiction book he read a while ago. He thinks it's at least several years old.
The book is described as being a thin novel and is about a man who describes
his life, his country, etc. At the end, the reader discovers that the entire
thing was made up, created by a man in jail. Any ideas? So far, our
reference librarians are stumped. Thanks for any suggestions you can

Is this possibly the French-Canadian novel Next Episode by Hubert Aquin?
It was written from the perspective of a young separatist awaiting trial
in a psych ward, writing an espionage story. It was a CBC Canada Reads
finalist in 2003.

And it is certainly NOT Jack London's "The
Star Rover," but there's an interesting variation
on that theme - a man locked in a cell who taps
into the realm of the unconscious archetypal mind
and travels across space and time. Really cool
lost treasure.
