Do any of you make similar yearly resolutions or reading goals, as to number of books you'll read in the year or types of books? Just curious.

My shelves at home are CROWDED with books...stacks of books on top of stacks of
books and I resolved this year to focus more on the books that I have at home
rather than reading the new books that I get into my library.
Somebody yesterday recommended reading one new book and one old book. I think
I'm gonna try to do that...just to keep myself on track.
Good luck with your reading and reading resolutions whatever they may be.

1) Read more of the past good literary quality books that everyone
keeps raving about (Secret Life of Bees, Plot Against America, for
example) and not so many Hollywood self-aggrandizing tell-alls.
2) Read more of the books I own rather than hoarding them for the
apocalypse (am I really going to feel like reading if that happens?).
3) And finally, read more books and play less online cribbage.
Do I ever follow any of my own resolutions? Well, I have succeeded a
little bit on number 3. :-)

As I was reviewing my reading for the past year, I realized that I read
very few books published in 2004. This certainly precludes me from
participating in Best Of discussions. I have therefore resolved to read
more books actually published in the forthcoming year.

1. To read two classics -- apparently I refused to read all of these books
in high school and college, or somehow got away with watching the video.
Last year I read Washington Square and, um, well, I only read one. I read
parts of Frankenstein for a movie discussion. This year two for sure.

2) Write down each book I read and listen to, but also to write short blurbs
for our "Good Reads" bulletin board at work--this really does help me recall
a book later...
Happy New Year and here's a high hope that all our resolutions are met.

I've been pondering this (and reading the other postings) and have decided
on the following resolution:
To read more titles in the genres that I do 'not' usually read. I've
discovered that I have developed a definite trend in my reading habits
which I now consider to be much too narrow. So I am making a resolution to
expand my reading into those areas which I tend to ignore.
I think I'll make a game of it - for each title that I read from my
favorite genres, I'll read at least one other title in a genre that I
usually avoid and read that title 'before' I pick up another title from one
of my favorite areas.
Now I have to go find one of those titles that I was avoiding reading as
I've already finished reading my first favorite genre title of 2005... :-)
