Hello.
I'm looking for a title - it could be fiction
or nonfiction - which had a chapter that involved
setting up one's friend to pay the bill for a
nice meal. It was set in France, and the patron
seems to recall a chapter heading somewhat along
the lines of 'things to do before you die' or
some such. Sounds a lot like a nonfiction Peter
Mayle to me, but I haven't found the specific
title yet. Probably a popular book, from at
least a few years back, maybe more.
Ring any bells?
Thanks,
David Wright

Mayle, wondering about the spending habits of the rich, received a golden³opportunity, to indulge his curiosity from "GQ Magazine." He provides some tips from his four-year search: a second home is not necessarily desirable, two things to avoid when shopping for antiques are fragility and the chic auction, and caviar should not be eaten with anything else - just spoon the black pearls into the mouth.

I don't have a copy to hand, but it might come out of Peter Mayle's book
Acquired Tastes which is a collection of, I think, columns he did for
Esquire or GQ or one of those posh men's style magazines where he did a lot
of very expensive things--on an expense account. Some of the things
included getting a Savile Row suit and custom Italian shoes.
