This is my first posting, and I must beg for help. A patron remembers
reading a short story (he thinks it was in a literature collection for
school) in the '60s when he was in middle school. He thinks it
"should" be by Kipling but can't find it in Kipling's works. There is
an officer who is the lone soldier manning an outpost--possibly on the
fringes of the British Raj. Although no one else is around, the
officer gets up each day, shaves, dresses, and keeps to his schedule.
It actually sounds familiar to me, but I can't place it and haven't
found a reference to it. Can anyone help?
