This is my first post, it's great to find a community of such book
enthusiasts! I'm not exactly sure of the nature of this list, but from
the last few days posts, it seems to be all librarians, ex-librarians,
or romance authors. Am I allowed on
this list as a mere reader? If so, I have a question for the collective
knowledge of this list:
About a year ago I read the book "Just A Couple of Days" by Tony
Vigorito because I had just finished my last Vonnegut book (until his
new one is published!), and that book happened to be what Amazon
reccomended for those who loved Vonnegut. I thoroughly loved it as much
as any book I've read in the past 2-3 years, although it seemed to me
more like a strange mix of Pynchon, Palahniuk and Aldoux Huxley (that
is, it was quirky/whimsical, had a bit of the "life is screwed up", and
was very much a novel based on ideas, like Huxley's). I don't know, I'm
very bad at describing books, but maybe this gives some indication of
how unique the novel was. The front cover describes it as "A Dr.
Strangelove for the biotech century". There, that's much better than my
attempt.
Anyway, since then I've been trying to find any and all information on
Mr. Vigorito, and aside from a non-updated page from when the book was
first released, I've had absolutely no luck. From what I can tell via
Amazon, the book was pretty well received, so I would hope this wasn't a
one off for Vigorito. Also - it seems like the only book ever published
by that company, so I don't know if it was self-published, or what. The
company was "Bast Books" out of Columbus, Ohio..which is also where
Vigorito lives.
I'd really like some information on Vigorito's background, and
especially any place with information on whether or not he has a new
book coming out anytime soon. He's one of the young authors I am most
excited about, and the author info. on the book says "he is currently
working on his second novel." Just A Couple of Days came out in 2001,
but I haven't been able to find anything on the internet with an update.
Your help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Tony Vigorito, AB '94, had his book, "Just a Couple of Days," published
last
year. The book chronicles the outbreak of a genetically modified dancing
plague and its effects on the spiritual growth of the protagonist.
Vigorito's wife, Jessica Maguire, designed the cover for the book. The
couple lives in Columbus.

WorldCat does not show any books other than this one issued by Bast Books.
The 2004/2005 edition of PUBLISHERS INTERNATIONAL ISBN DIRECTORY has a
listing for Bast (v2, p2608), indicating (see email) that it is self-published:
Bast Books
92 Kelso Road
Columbus, Ohio 43202
e-mail: [removed]@osu.edu
I can't confirm if the email address is still good (couldn't find it in
the OSU online "find people" directory search, but it looks pretty clunky).
Presumably the snail mail address is still good, so you could write and
ask him...
In May, 2004 both Vigorito and Maguire were listed as visiting professors
in the Sociology and/or Anthropology depts. at Ohio State:
www.ohiou.edu/catalog/04-05/pdf/appen.pdf
That indicated they each had PhDs from Ohio State, so I searched Digital
Dissertations and found these citations:
Agricultural biotechnology, corporate hegemony, and the industrial
colonization of science
by Vigorito, Anthony J., PhD
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, 2002, 155 pages
Ecstatic pain and a labor of love: Emotion praxis of the midwifery movement
by Maguire, Jessica P., PhD
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, 2002, 150 pages

Thank you guys so much for the info, especially the email and snailmail
addresses, and the dissertations look amazingly interesting as well.
As a side note, I'd again reiterate that this was one of the best novels
I've read in the past 5 years, it's crazy to me that it didn't get more
coverage than it did. Basically, if anyone is a fan of Vonnegut/Pynchon
style "quirky" moral writers, or of the more recent
Palahniuk/Clevenger/Elliott/Baer style of writing, I think both would
find this book amazing.
Thanks for briefly letting me take up your time, I continue to enjoy the
vast amount of information and reccomendations I've been getting from
this list.
