I would like to highlight some of the the Fiction_L posting guidelines for
all of you and, especially, for our new subscribers.
I want to emphasize that our list is a reader's advisory list, and,
that the primary topics of our discussion are topics that have a direct
relation to reader's advisory: book discussions, booklists, read-alikes,
training, resources and many others.
Once in a while we do have an off-topic discussions, and, while I feel that
these discussions are also important and helpful for many subscribers, I
think that in order for many subscribers to get the maximum benefit from
Fiction_L and to fully enjoy the list, we have to try to limit our off-topic
postings.
One way of doing that, I would suggest, is to reply directly to the person
that posted an inquiry, especially, if the discussion results in asking
people for faxing/emailing materials or technical details of some sorts.
It is very difficult sometimes to define which discussion is or is not
really appropriate for our list and that is why I do not jump in to break
up some discussions as a moderator even when I feel that some of them are
off-topic. I just want to ask all of you to consider Fiction_L
posting policy before you send your message to the list.
I would also like to remind our new subscribers that if you post a
question that results in Fiction_L subscribers suggesting books, we ask you
to compile and post a list of the suggested books for everyone's benefit.
You can always refer to our web page for the Fiction_L policies and
guidelines at http://www.webrary.org/rs/flmenu.html . This address is at the
bottom of every message posted to Fiction_L.
And thank all of you for making this list so succesful! We now have more
than 1600 subscribers!
