Ms. Bradford,
I am a local high school librarian, and I need help with this reference
question. I was e-mailed this request from a teacher for one of her
husband's adult patients. Because my specialty is YA fiction, I think you
might be more qualified in this area. I have already suggested novels by
Willa Cather. Please email me. We will be in school until Wednesday.
Sincere thanks,
Julie

Julie, could you give me some recommendations for books for someone who has
a mental handicap but is a fairly proficient reader? The story line canNOT
contain anything dealing with illness or suicide as this person is an
extreme hypocondriac (seriously) and would imagine herself to have whatever
disease were mentioned in the book. I recommended (and she both read and
enjoyed Summer of My German Soldier) but most of the other titles I can
think of contain material that wouldn't be healthy for her to read. Is this
one of the strangest requests you've had today?
Thanks,
Mrs. Fedorchak
