for a feel good Depression era book, The Longest Road by Jeanne Williams is
perfect.

Mr. White's Confession by Robert Clark is a Depression era mystery set in
Minnesota

The Bottoms by Joe Lansdale is set in Depression era East Texas - sort of
mystery/crime. Not a gentle read.

All of Harold Adams' Carl Wilcox mysteries are set in the Upper Midwest during the Great Depression.

One of my favorite books set in the depression era is Run with the Horsemen by
Farrol Sams. It is witty and there are two sequels which take the main
character through World War II.
