Anyway, what I said is pasted below:
This gives me a chance to tell everybody about my latest favorite book--a
recent publication entitled Crow Lake, by Mary Lawson. It's about a family
in Northern Ontario who undergo an incredible tragedy, and the story is told
in retrospect by one of the children, now a Professor of Zoology in Toronto.
It combines the rural and urban settings, treats of childhood and of adult
relationships and is so incredibly well-written I was on the edge of my
chair and occasionally gasping for breath at the realism of her
story-telling. We are currently having a national debate via CBC, our
national radio broadcaster (http://www.cbc.ca/canadareads/), about which
book all of Canada should read, and it includes a People's Choice component.
I nominated Crow Lake and highly recommend that you all order it for your
libraries and read it yourselves--you'll be in for a real treat!
Maureen
