Hi, I just received a donation of lots of
westerns and many of them are in series. I don't
know much about westerns, we're short on space
and I'd like opinions about the following series:

Gunsmith
Trailsman
Jake Logan
Longarm
Buckskin

Which might be worth keeping? While we're at it,
what other series are well done? I remember that
"Rivers of the West" was recommended at a
workshop.

The Longarm series is bodice rippers. Some of your traditional western
readers may object to some of the more graphic selections.

I thought all of these are "adult westerns" and of the ilk as
someone earlier pointed out about the Jake Logan series. Check
the spines -- if "adult western" appears anywhere, they are
typically not the kind that traditional western readers like (not that
they are not read, just not traditional western readers).

I don't carry them here (in Great Falls MT) because no one seems
to want to read them (and I've tried). All I get is complaints that
there is "too much violence, preposterous plots, and 'bucking
women' ." So evaluate, carefully.... (-:

We have the Longarm series in our library and it circulates well. That
amazes me considering the first thing our Western readers go for is Louis
L'Amour or Matt Braun.

I deal with westerns a lot and all these series are very very popular in
my libraries. Be warned however - they are "adult" westerns so there's
plenty of swearing and sex in them, so if you have some faint of heart
western readers, steer them to Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey.
