Pronunciation question

Hi. I tried to find this on the 'Net, but no luck. So thought I would
try my best back up group. (-:
Does anyone know the *correct* pronunciation of the legendary
place "Shannara" by Terry Brooks.
I've been told (by someone who no longer works here who knew
someone who attended a workshop by T. Brooks. He was quite
miffed when attendees said "Sha-NAR-a".) She said it was
pronounced "SHAN-ar-a".
But when I say "SHAN-ar-a", people correct me that it is "Sha-NAR-
a."
So, can anyone help? BYE!

I've always said it "sha NARR ah" myself. I looked on google and a link to an interview transcript with Terry Brooks doesn't work, but the cached copy said this:
"Incidentally, Joe and I were pretty careful in the interview not to say too much about the Shannara books. Not because we didn't want him to talk about his best-selling novels, but we just KNEW that we would pronounce it wrong. Joe says shan-NAIR-a, I say sha-NARR-a; sure enough, when he finally said the word, Terry Brooks pronounces it SHANnara. The "a" in SHAN sounds like "ash". SHAN-uh-ra. I wanted to jump in and correct him -- "No, no, you're pronouncing it wrong! It's ShanNARa!" -- but, you know, it's TERRY BROOKS. And Owen, a conscientious editor, might have clobbered me with his laptop. But we bring the truth to you: it's pronounced SHANnara. Anybody who says it differently is wrong. You heard it from Zealot."
The web page is:

I also found this on http://www.mervius.com/zine/9_00_diary.htm:
September 5, 2000 (Tuesday) --
"The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara, by Terry Brooks -- Hitting retail book shelves today is Ilse Witch, the first book of a new Shannara series from the man who started it all, Terry Brooks. The name of this new series as a whole is The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara. I met Mr. Brooks a few years ago, when he did a book-signing here in Pittsburgh, while he was promoting Running With The Demon (which I enjoyed quite a bit). He was talking to a fan who was ahead of me in line, about the pronunciation of Shannara -- Mr. Brooks had originally meant for the emphasis to be on the first part of the word (SHANN-uh-ruh), though fans everywhere assume it's shuh-NAR-uh. Hm, I wonder how he pronounces "Jerle" and "Ilse." Anyway, I even got my photo taken with him that day. Perhaps I'll post that to Fantastica Daily one of these days. Oh, wait, that would mean everybody would get to see what Mervius looks like. I'll have to re-think that move."
If the official Terry Brooks website corrects their page, I might just "Ask Terry". http://www.terrybrooks.net/
