I have a patron, a voracious reader and usually quite on the money when it
comes to authors and titles, who is looking for a book he swears is by J. A.
Jance. Well, I've read synopses of everything she's written and none of
them seem to fit this description: young woman just out of or just finishing
law school; everyone "messed her up" but she prevailed; takes place in a
major city like NY or Chicago; is not part of a Beaumont; does not take
place in the SW. Also, it's not something he's read recently, but he
doesn't think it's "all that old".......

Any help here? I've never read a Jance and am not much of a mystery /
thriller reader, so I've no memories to dredge. From the descriptions I've
read, it's closest to her HOUR OF THE HUNTER, but it doesn't seem that close
to me. Is there someone Jance-like who's written a book that fits these
criteria?
