We're looking for an adult novel read "several years ago" with a female
mystery writer as the protagonist. She returns to her hometown where kids
reenact her latest book and attempt to kill her.

Does anyone remember a book with this plot?

This comes from frustrated staff here who are not mystery readers - and
whenever they search for female or woman mystery writer or author all that
they have found are lists of books by female mystery writers!

You know, I read this question a week or ago and the plot rings a bell but I'll be darned if I can remember the title. But it seems the kids attempt (or do) to push the teacher off of a cliff. I'll keep trying to think of it if no one else comes up with it.

Well, good news and bad news. Good news is I found the book I was thinking of - OVER THE EDGE by Hal Friedman, but bad news is that after reading the plot synopsis on Amazon, I'm not sure this is the book your patron is thinking of. But worth a try, perhaps.
