Hi. I would recommend the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series
by Laurie R. King (beginning with The Beekeeper's Apprentice).
Altho' there is not the strong element of archaeology, Russell is a
strong female protangonist -- somewhat "out of the norm" of the
mores of the time period. As the series progresses, the theme of
history (and a little archaeology) developes around the Middle East,
much in Israel. Good series.

I created this list for a patron of ours. I've only read some of these
myself (my primary focus is Reference, I'm de facto RA, we're a small
library so I'm de facto a lot of things!!!) These may not be exact
read-a-likes but they have elements that would appeal to fans of that
series, which is why a few of these are mysteries set in Ancient Egypt.
