Hello,
Can anyone ID this title from approx. 1992-1999. A
big city obituary writer (possibly Philadelphia or New
York City) witnesses a mob hit while eating at his
favorite restaurant. He realizes he has to flee town.
He sets about on the trail of Joseph Smith, founder of
the Mormon Church. He may also be writing a book
about Smith. He ends up losing a lot of a weight
(this works to disguise himself from the Mob) and he
eventually joins a religious group out west and gets
married within this group. At the end he is a
transformed man and (possibly) returns to the city
where he witnessed the murder.
