I think I may start calling all of the publishers when I have multiples of
the same title which don't hold up. I am getting sick of this!!!

So let me get this straight: You want information about why reference
librarians always answer a question with another question, right?

I'm glad someone else brought up this issue. I've been wondering if
it was just the books I've been ordering that seem to fall apart after
only a few circs.
However, I have to bring up I don't believe it's only the binding.
Another factor (I believe) is how people treat books. I was brought
up (picture me as the "little old lady" shaking her finger at any
miscreant) to treat our library books (or anyone else's books) with
respect. I see people jam/cram library books into their backpacks,
chuck them into the back seats of their cars through open back
windows, etc. I know this has been an age-old problem, but it
does seem to have gotten worse. Just an observation....

you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticize them, you are a mile away...
and you have their shoes.
