A patron at my library is desperately trying to find the title of a book she read; she thinks a 1996 bestseller. Female author. She called it a "woman's passage book". Set in New Hampshire or Connecticut, involving a lesbian couple, Canadian geese who live under a porch and go away at the end of the season, a rented house. Does this strike a bell with anyone?

Don't know if this is the right book or not, but Anne Rivers Siddons "Up
Island" takes place in a rented house on a remote pond on Martha's Vineyard
during the the winter. A pair of swans are major element in the story which
was pub. in '97(close!)
