Subject: Irish American Historical Fiction
I have a patron who read Angela's Ashes and 'Tis. She is now looking for an
historical fiction novel about Irish Americans and the conflict between
Catholics and Protestants. Any suggestions?

Also Roddy Doyle's A STAR CALLED HENRY (first of a proposed trilogy)
recounts the events of the Easter Rebellion and subsequent troubles.
My favorites are Thomas Flanagan's THE YEAR OF THE FRENCH(1798 uprising)
and TENANTS OF TIME.
Currently I'm enjoying the Sister Fidelma (late 7th cent)mysteries by
Peter Tremayne--also the Bartholomew Gill's McGarr mysteries(modern
Ireland) are good.
You might suggest Brian Moore or Dermot Healy.

Although not strictly historical fiction, Andrew Greeley's work has the underlying history
of the "Troubles" woven through it, both historical and modern. The main title that comes
to mind is RITE OF SPRING, and the "IRISH" titles do touch on this extensively, too, if
memory serves.
