ATTACHMENTS
As mentioned in the Fiction_L Posting Guidelines on our site
(http://www.webrary.org/rs/flposting.html) we will no longer accept messages
that include attachments or other types of enclosures. The following are a
few reasons for enforcing that rule.
The most important consideration is the ability of attachments to carry and
spread computer viruses. We were lucky that last Tuesday's virus was not
distrubuted through Fiction_L and not all of our subscribers' computers were
affected by it. Another reason being that attachments are not compatible
with the digest and archives because they create a long list of characters
in the message when an attachment is converted into the digest version of
Fiction_L. I would like to ask all who include signature files or address
book entries as attachments to turn them off when replying or posting a new
message to Fiction_L. Also, as a reminder, please include your compiled
lists of titles/authors in the body of your message -- do not send them as
an attachment.
COMPILED LISTS
Anyone who asks a question that results in getting suggestions for booklists
is asked to post compiled lists/bibliographies to Fiction_L. Most of the
compiled lists are published on the Fiction_L Booklists page with credits
given to the compiler and all Fiction_L subscribers who suggested
titles/authors.
MY THANK YOUS
I am trully thankful to all of you who helped us in the recent "virus
crisis" by initially alerting the FL Administrator about the virus and
providing us with necesary information in the days following the initial
occurrence of this problem. My thanks also go to Melissa Rice, who was
managing the List in my absence, and to Kevin Justie for his continious
technical support of Fiction_L.
Thank you!

Natalya -
I definitely agree with the "no attachment" policy and with posting lists
within the body of the email to Fiction_L. I think it might be worthwhile to
mention that if a list gets too long fro the body of one email (e.g., an
embarrassment of riches - a plethora of fabulous suggestions <g>) it can
always be split into 2 posts. This has been done already - but I'm just
mentioning it as a suggestion to subscribers who may be new to the list. The
posts would be sent as e.g., Romantic suspense novels, Part 1 and Romantic
suspense novels, Part 2.
