I assume your patron is looking for fiction? While not
written by a Christian, the books of Chaim Potok would
be excellent in conveying a sense of Jewish culture.
The Chosen, for example, illuminates boys' experiences
of growing up in both the reform and orthodox
traditions. For the feminine perspective, one can
gather much about both non-observant and
ultra-orthodox Jewish life from Anne Roiphe's
Lovingkindness.

Herman Wouk's The Winds of War, and War and Remembrance, which tell the story of
World War iI from the perspectives of two families, the Jewish Jastrows and the
Methodist Henrys, whose lives intertwine through both chance and marriage.
Noah Gordon's The Physician, The Rabbi and The Last Jew are all great reads that take
a thoughtful look at the interactions of Judaism and Christianity at different times
in history. Very sympathetic characters and even-handed treatment of both religions.
Hope this helps.

The first thing that comes to my mind is the Faye Kellerman series listed
below. In the first book, Peter Decker, a police detective, is assigned to
solve a murder which occurs in a small orthodox Jewish community near Los
Angeles. Rina Lazarus is a young widow from the community, whom Decker
questions. The plot is well done, but the book is character driven, with a
very strong setting and Rina explains Judaism to Peter not only in this
book, but in the rest of the series.

An adult user is interested in a book which is specifically geared toward
learning about the Jewish experience/culture from the point of view of a
Christian. Does anybody have any ideas or recommendations?
