A patron is looking for a novel she saw a while ago. She has no idea how
old the book was, but she knows it was a mystery written by two men. One
author is much more widely known for his nonfiction books that deal with
crime, or prisons, or prisoners, and the other author writes more fiction.
She thought the book itself might have dealt with a serial killer, but isn't
sure about that. Nothing came to my mind, but I'm sure there is someone out
there who can come up with the title. Thanks in advance.Sue Pellant

I wonder -- could this possibly be "Candyland", co-written by Evan Hunter and Ed McBain? It's not an exact match, since they're both fiction writers, but they are identified with different writing styles, McBain's being police procedural and Hunter's being more psychological. Of course, as you may already know, McBain and Hunter are actually the same person, who publishes different types of books under different names.

Could your patron mean Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs? Preston has
written non-fiction as well as thrillers with Lincoln Childs. Or could
she/he mean John Douglas? He is the FBI profiler and has written one
fiction book.Valerie Maine

John Douglas frequently writes with Mark Olshaker, but I don't know if
they've co-written a mystery.
