I'm trying to remember the author/title of a collection of short stories
by a female author recently published (in the last 1-2 years) to recommend
to a patron. The collection was, I think, on the bestseller list for a
while. I thought the author's first name was Laurie or Lori or... One of
the stories I remember the author wrote about losing a child or being in
the ER for an emergency with a young child (baby). Anyone remember what
I'm referring to?

Could the author you're referring to be Laurie Colwin? She was a magnificent
short story writer, writing with humor and poignancy - and died at, I
believe, age 48, of a heart condition.
Some of her more recent titles are:
Home Cooking by Laurie Colwin, Anna Shapiro(Illustrator)
More Home Cooking by Laurie Colwin
(She also wrote for Gourmet Magazine)
Family Happiness : A Novel (Perennial Fiction Library) by Laurie Colwin
Happy All the Time : A Novel by Laurie Colwin
Passion and Affect by Laurie Colwin
I don't know if she's the one your patron is asking for, but if not - she's a
great discovery, IMHO.
