Does anyone know of a mystery series set in upstate New York featuring a
woman who is part Cherokee? There's some element of magic involved--the
patron mentioned that the Cherokee woman could make people disappear.

Thomas Perry has a series that features Jane Whitehead a Seneca (there is
a Seneca res. in upstate New York) who makes people disappear but not by
magical means (at least in the one I read).

Thomas Perry's heroine Jane Whitefield is Seneca and she helps people
disappear. Her clients are fleeing danger and there is no supernatural
element. The earlier books are set in LA but in the more recent titles,
she is in New York state.
