We are looking for a book that is historical fiction concerning the fall of
Constantinople. Our patron has told us that she is sure she read it before
1964. Any ideas?

Maybe not medieval *European* women...but this book is about Moslems, which
(given the time period) means harems...I remember reading and enjoying it.
It's about the "janissaries," the young Christian males who were taken as a
sort of tax-tribute item, converted, and trained as soldiers.
