A staff member has asked me to post the following plot to a book that she
read a few years ago. I told her that someone on this list will surely know
the title. Here goes:

Someone is cloning the children of rich people to keep as spare parts in
case they are needed. One of these clones escapes from the island and finds
his double. So far we know it is NOT The Third Twin by Ken Follett, Spares
by Michael Smith or Cellmates by Robert Burton.

Could it be a planet, not an island? It sounds like BROTHERS IN ARMS, by Lois McMaster Bujold, and its sequel, MIRROR DANCE.

It us _The Experiment_ and is by John Darnton (the Cultural Editor
of the NY Times)

Yes, it is an awesome book <g> and is very intense. The book is
one of the "best" according to those in the bio-technology field...
