I have a customer who is looking for a fantasy she read 5-10 years ago. She
describes it as a virtual reality novel concerning knights and jousting
tournaments.There are both men and women characters. At least one of the
characters is handicapped in the real world but is whole in the VR world.
She also remembers a training hall in a stable where the people choose their
mounts.
The customer told me that the trigger that reminded her of this book was
Piers Anthony's book, Killobyte. To me she is describing Killobyte. I can't
find anything else that has similar characteristics.

Any thoughts?

Except for the time frame, I would say this is "A Point of Honor" by
Dorothy Heydt. It was published in 1998. Other than that all the details
match.

I thought of that one too but the time frame, as you said, was too recent. I
haven't mentioned that one to my patron yet but will if I get no other

Andrew Greeley's "God Game" came to my mind when I read your posting-it's a
long time since I read it, but it does deal with virtual reality and knights.
I don't remember anything about the training.
