I have a colleague who is trying to find a female equivalent of Cather in the Rye. Something I read recently compared it to The Bell Jar, but my colleague wants something that isn't so depressing.

I remember that when THE BOOK OF PHOEBE by Mary-Ann
Tirone Smith came out (mid-80's) the reviews called it
a "female Catcher in the Rye". I liked it very much
but can't comment on whether or not it's a valid
comparison because (I guess I should be embarassed to
admit it) I've never read it - Catcher in the Rye I
mean.
