I think of these as science fiction with emphasis on morality and family, so . . . I would
suggest The Giver or Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry, and perhaps the Homecoming
series by Orson Scott Card, which begins with The Memory of Earth. With a more
creepy tone, but also stories of family, try Margaret Mahy's The Changeover which has
a hint of teen romance ala A Wrinkle in Time ( I do mean *hint*).

The first thing that comes to my mind is which books did the patron like?
Ms. L'Engle wrote in some fairly different styles or types of books,
from her science fiction/fantasy Wrinkle in Time series to
the Austin family saga (domestic fiction, with some romance), to what
appears to be adventure stories and various other things.
(I've read the Austin family books and the sf ones, but not the others)

C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy ("Out of the Silent Planet", "Perelandra", and "That Hideous Strength").
Charles Williams' theological thrillers ("War in Heaven", "Many Dimensions", "The Greater Trumps", etc.).
Peter S. Beagle's "The Last Unicorn" is not explicitly Christian, but might be of interest anyway. (And besides, Schmendrick the Magician is a hoot.)
J. Frank Peretti's books might be an outside possibility if the patron is sympathetic to Peretti's flavor of Christianity, although I would hesitate to say that his writing style is anywhere close to L'Engle's.
