I have a patron looking for a book that was written approx. 25 years ago
called A Day Late and A Dollar Short (maybe) about a Polish (maybe)
immigrant who came to New York with no resources or education and became a
rich and successful stock broker.

A long shot, but could this be Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer? (Archer wrote another book, not part of this series, called Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less.)
