My patron is looking for a book she read about 25 years ago. Book is about
a school age boy who spends 6 months a year attending school and the other
6 months (with his parents permission) traveling with a band of gypsies

The is non-fiction, by a Dutch author Jan Yoors about his own experiences
and I think that it is just called THE GYPSIES. It takes place before WWII.
There is a sequel that deals with some of what happens during WWII
