Subject: Farm Wife--Not Bridges of Madison County
A patron is looking for a book she started reading at least five years ago.
It was not on the "New Book Shelf" but probably was not too old when she
read it. The only part she remembers is a "farm wife" a "drifter, or some
man, comes to work on the farm." She said it was a "sweet story" and it was
very descriptive. She is petty sure it was written by a woman. She suggested
that "Olive" was in the author's name...but it is not _Cold Sassy Tree_. It
is also not _Bridges of Madison County_
Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be Laverle Spencer's "Morning Glory". It was the first
one of hers that I read, and I really liked it! Jeanne
>>
But Morning Glory isn't at all a farm story, as far as I remember - although
some of her earlier historicals were.

I also would have said Morning Glory. It seems to me that the woman (it's
been
years since I read it) needed help on her farm so she hired the drifter
after
placing an ad that no local would respond to. Am I remembering the wrong
book?

Mea culpa! In Morning Glory, the heroine advertises for someone to help run
the farm. The hero answers the ad. Wonderful, wonderful book! Has a
character who's a librarian, by the way, who plays an important role in the
outcome. Arguably, Spenser's best book.
