sequel to this, entitled "Karen". This is rather vague, I know, but I'm
remembering off the top of my head and I read this back in the sixties.

Author David Melton wrote a book called "A Boy Called Hopeless" about a
brain-damaged boy, written from the perspective of his older sister.
Although fictional, it is based on the author's own son.

Richard Galli wrote a book last year called Rescuing Jeffrey. His son
Jeffrey broke his neck in a diving accident. The book is mainly about the
first 10 days when Richard tried to decide whether to pull the plug. It has
a hopeful ending. Jeff is now attending URI and has his own website at
www.gallilaw.com/jeffhome.htm

Before you read Alex, lay in a serious supply of tissues. It was
recommended to me by a parent of a child with cystic fibrosis, and I sobbed
pretty much the whole way through it. Deford is an excellent writer, and he
tells the story of his child's life beautifully.
