I just finished reading the novel, _Tumbling_, by Diane McKinney-Whetstone;
and I have some questions about it. Did the character, Liz, suffer with a
condition called geophagy? Why? Knowing what you know about the character
from reading the novel, why do you think Liz had this affliction? Also, tell
me about the demolition of the church, please! Did McKinney-Whetstone base
that event in the novel on an actual occurence in Philadelphia during the late
1950s? What really happened in Philadelphia during that time concerning South
Street and the supposed building of a highway? Is McKinney-Whetstone's
fictional neighborhood of Noon and Herbie based on one that really existed?
Thank you in advance for your help! I appreciate it! I enjoyed this novel
and will discuss it tomorrow with a book discussion group. I wish that I had
finished the novel sooner so that I could have posted this e-mail earlier.
Then I would be able to read more of your respones before the discussion, but
any help that you will offer to me will be good! Thank you, again!
