All Fiction_L mail has a "Reply-To:" header set to the Fiction_L address. If
you hit "reply" after reading any of the Fiction_L messages, your message
will automatically go to the entire list. Many of us, myself included, have
sent our private mail to list by clicking the "reply" button too fast or not
realizing that the personal message will end up being posted to Fiction_L.
If I see a personal/private message posted to Fiction_L before the digest
goes out, I do delete it from the digest, and I always delete
personal/private messages from the archives. However, I cannot do anything
about the original posting of personal/private messages that go directly to
the non-digest version of Fiction_L.
I'm also posting an excerpt from the Fiction_L posting guidelines page
concerning individual requests:
"Send requests such as, "Please fax me..." directly to the person you want
to ask for such a favor. If you think that posting the requested information
would be useful for all Fiction_L subscribers, please ask the person
individually to post it to the list for everyone's benefit".
There're many other useful reminders on our web page
(http://www.webrary.org/rs/flposting.html); it'll make a wonderful reading!
:-)
