My daughter's friend called me with a typical RA request. She can't
remember the title or author but...
The book is set in contemporary times and in the future. Part of it
involves the Holy Land and both Arabs and Jews. The protagonists are
working at a restaurant and a diner may be bombed. There are at least 3
plots going on simultaneously. The key factor seems to be that there are
inanimate objects which become animate in the story. In particular she
remembers a spoon which turns into a woman.
