Children in a shipyard and children in a swamp

1) A children's fantasy novel, perhaps by Elizabeth Goudge. It describes the
adventures of some children who live in a shipyard where they need to build
a ship to save the yard. With the help of some magic "doors", the children
get help from various mythological figures - like Vulcan, the god of fire,
and get all the stuff to save the yard.
2) A "series" of I think 2 books, American authored, about some children who
come across some semi-abandoned houses in a swamp(?), meet the oddball
characters who still live there and end up living there and "restoring" the
houses.
I'd be so grateful for any help. When I say years searching, I mean 25 or
so, on and off!

If it helps any, you're not crazy, I remember the second books. The oddball
characters lived and dressed in the past and one of them was named Minnehaha
(or something that sounded like that) and the kids called her Aunt. Darned
if I remember the titles of them though. (Big help I am! But maybe it'll
jog someone's memories.) But I didn't read them 25 years ago since I'm only
27, but since I was quite the little used book store buyer when I was a
child, these could have been that old, or reissues of older works.

This must be "Gone-Away Lake" and "Return to Gone-Away", both
by Elizabeth Enright, and recently reissued. These are wonderful
books, and Aunt Minnehaha and Uncle Pin are great characters.

Those are it! Thank you. See it helped me remembering the character name.
But I sorry I can't help with the first one.

Fiona, I can't help you with #1, but #2 is definitely "Gone-Away Lake" and
"Return to Gone-Away," by Elizabeth Enright. Two of my favorites!

Hello, Fiona,
I think the ones about the swamp are Elizabeth Enright's GONE AWAY-LAKE and
RETURN TO GONE-AWAY. Don't be put off by the work "lake". My personal
recollection from reading as a child is that there was a great deal of
swampiness, and that's borne out by the flap on the brand spanking new
edition... "a swamp choked with reeds....and on the far side of the
swamp...a ghost town".

Goudge's THE VALLEY OF SONG (1951) is briefly described as "a fable of
18th century boat-builders" in the Clute and Grant ENCYCLOPEDIA OF
FANTASY, so it may be worth taking a look at. I don't have a copy to
check, but perhaps someone else here does.
