I think I am hallucinating... I thought that someone had done a list
of books with librarians as characters. I wanted to use that list for our
staff newsletter, but can't find it in the Fiction_L booklists. Does anyone
else remember this and can you give me a hint where to look in the archives?
Thanks, Patty

Librarians as Detectives
Jordan Poteet
The Mirabeau, TX, librarian created by Jeff
Abbott. First met in Do Unto Others, he is a wonderful
character set in a wonderful small town. Excellent
writing.
Helma Zukas
A reference librarian at the Bellehaven, WA,
library created by Jo Dereske. The first Miss Zukas
book is Miss Zukas and the Library Murders; she may
appear to be the classic stereotypical librarian, but
she has hidden depths.
Edward George
A retired librarian created by Charles Goodrum,
Edward George spends a lot of time at the Werner-Bok
library in Washington, DC. The first book in the
series is Dewey Decimated; my favorite is Carnage of
the Realm.

I don't know if the final list was posted, but within the year 2000, there
was at least one thread on this topic, perhaps more. I think the best thing
to do is to go to the Fiction_L archives and use the search term "Librarians
in Fiction." That will lead you to the various postings on the topic. I
know many people contributed suggestions.

I don't know if a list was ever compiled, but the question has come up
two or three times on Stumpers as well as on Fiction-L. There are a
number of suggestions in this area in the Stumpers Archives; here's
what I said once or twice before when the question arose:
Stumpers Archives can be searched via hotlink from--

This question has been through Stumpers a couple of times before, and a
quick check of the Archives reveals about fifty relevant postings (and a
number of not-so) under "Librarians in fiction" or "Librarians in
literature." There was even some vague thought about someone trying
to gather all the suggestions together into a publishable article or
website, but I don't think that ever happened.
Anyway, if you search the Archives under keywords librarians fiction
most of the relevant results should be obvious from their headers.
There are also references to libraries/librarians in movies etc.

HIGH LONESOME ROAD by Betsy Thornton
This is a new murder mystery about a bookmobile librarian in the Bisbee, AZ area whose body is found "riddled with bullets." I just got it and can't wait to read it as I was a Bookmobile librarian for 15 years. :-)
