We did a survivor display on an area just at the entrance to the adult
fiction area. In it we included a broken oar(don't ask), a life jacket ,a
bucket and a couple of pieces of firewood one of which had the words "Are
you a survivor?" on it

Maybe you could add a Wilson volley ball ( a la "Castaway") and if it was an
old one you could paint a face on it, or use something that would come off
easily. Tom Hanks used blood but I would shy away from that myself. It sure
would attract people to your display.
