I have a customer asking for the 5th book in a "Earth's Children" series
written
by Jean M. Auel...I can't find the name of the 5th book in this series..I
have #1)The Clan of the Cave Bear 2) The Valley of Horses
3)The Mammoth Hunters and 4) The Plains of Passage

Could someone help me out?

It's not out yet, 'cause I've got people asking for it also. There was a question about it in Parade Magazine that was in our 1/14/01 Sunday paper. The author states [and I'm quoting the article] "its moving along well, and I'm seeing light at the end ot the tunnel". She hopes to have two books come out one after the other fairly quickly. But in the question and answer - the author never says "WHEN"! I already have 2 people on the "waiting" list for this book. I'm hoping that it will come out this year.

There is no fifth book. I always wondered what happened to it myself
because I read Plains of Passage when I was in high school, ten years ago.
Back in '98, I worked in a book store and they rerealsed Clan of the Cave
Bear in paperback and we took it as a good sign that a new book was coming
out, but another person said, that rumors been spread for years. I
wouldn't
hold my breath looking for one any time soon.

Barb-
The fifth book has not been written yet. I only know that much though. I
have heard talk that she is supposed to finish the series, but everywhere I
check garners no results.

This is a frequently asked question at BookBrowser. Here is the best answer we've been able to come up with. Hope it helps. If you go to the first website listed below, you'll see that this fan has had regular contact with Ms. Auel's son, but he's not able to get much information from his mother either! You can sign up for an email alert for news on Book 5 on this site, and browse through the messages from Mr. Auel. The second site might keep patrons busy reading similar works in the meantime:

The rumors about a new Jean Auel book has been around for at least the last 8
years. Patrons rush into the library saying they just heard that there is a
new book in the series, either from a friend or on the Internet or from some
other source. It's so sad to have to disappoint them, that there's nothing in
Books in Print or Forthcoming Books or in any of the online sources.

I know if she would write the fifth book and bring some sort of closure to the
series, it would make a lot of her fans very happy. At least I can tell them
that Diana Gabaldon will have a new book out sometime this year!

I just read in the latest issue of "Locus" that Auel should be coming out
with her next two books nearly momentarily. However, the item appeared
underneath a picture of her from 1984 so make of it what you will.
