still can't satisfy a borrower I have, so can anyone
recommend similiar readalikes for Winston Graham - set
almost in the same time era etc.

Jamaica Inn by Daphne Dumaurier. A recent children's book called The
Wreckers, by Iain Lawrence, fits the time/location criteria, but the subject
matter is, well, tailored for children, though on the gruesome side.
