This book was about a guy who had been in the Vietnam War and his group had
to clear out Vietcong tunnel systems. When he got back to the states he
created his own tunnel system under his hometown.
[She's] not real clear on the rest of the details except that he and some of
his friends had to save
the town from the "bad guys" using the tunnels.

I offered to forward this for a colleague at the state library - does this
plot description sound familiar to anyone?

My colleague just emailed me to confirm that the book she wanted was,
indeed, Digger. She also noted that she was trying to remember Michael Con?
whose protagonist was a famous artist - because she thought his books might
be relevant, so she appreciated that little memory boost too.
It never ceases to amaze me how intuitive some of what we end up doing
really is, and what fun it is to tease out all the associations for
ourselves and our patrons. Thanks to everyone who helped here.
